My weekend get away!

Hello lovely bloggers,

It has been a while since I checked in. I hope everyone had a really nice weekend. I enjoyed a lovely weekend trip with my family up to The White Mountains of Arizona. My darling husband rounded our family up together and planned a quick weekend getaway to some cooler, fresh mountain air. Lots of family time, laughs & stories around the campfire, good food, fishing and relaxing serenity in nature's beauty was all around me this past weekend. I couldn't ask for anything better. Here are a few photos I would like to share of some of our mountain memories...

The little taste of winter weather I experienced this past weekend. Definitely got me in the mood to talk about Vintage Winter clothing. I had planned to post a blog about that last week, however ran out of time preparing for the trip. I promise to be on the subject this week, as I am already behind on the topic of discussion. Most of what my clothing consisted of this weekend, was what you would call a 1940's camping wardrobe. Dungarees, flannels, scarves, tennis shoes & wet boots! Let me tell you, I really got a break from pin curls and make-up lol! But that's what camping is all about, according to my husband.....

Toodles,

Syd

Stay out West in Vintage Luxury (2of5)

Happy Friday to all of you!

This is the second entry in the "Stay Out West in Vintage Luxury" travel series that I started about a month ago. So sorry it took me so long to move along with these entries. I think I have mentioned before that I am easily distracted at times lol!. Anywhoo, enough rambling. Here it goes:

On my list today is Tucson's beautiful Lodge on the Desert. The Lodge on the Desert is the epitome of Old West ambiance and intimacy at it's finest. That only time worn historic locations and desert relaxation can create. The Lodge started out in 1931 as an actual residence to Cornelia and Homer Lininger. Who then in 1936 opened the Lodge for business with seven little quaint hacienda style rooms. With the hope that travelers passing through the Old West would feel at home and peaceful in our desert environment and landscape.

Today, more than 73 years after that little clever idea was entertained. It is known as one of Tucson's premiere boutique style hotels. Still keeping it's original historic 35 guest rooms. The Lodge went under a huge renovation project that was completed in June 2009. It added an additional 103 units to it's already magnificent desert oasis. Located in the heart of mid-town Tucson. It makes for a very convenient location to surrounding entertainment, restaurants, shopping, etc. And only a hop, skip and jump away from Historic Downtown Tucson.

Take a drive south to discover a small Mexico style town full of cultural art in Tubac. Or maybe you would like to take a day trip to the wonderful historic towns of Tomstone or Bisbee. For some old cowboy history, good eats and antiquing. On the other hand, maybe you would like to relax in the nearby Sonoita scenery, while sipping on a glass of magnificent tasting wine. Whatever it may be, with a golden view of the mountains, charming Vintage Old West hacienda style rooms, Old West hospitality, and an unparalleled desert sunset. I invite you to come and relax in the desert. The Lodge on the Desert awaits your stay!

Photos are from The Lodge on the Desert website

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

XOXO,

Syd

"Waitin for the A Train"

Good morning lovely readers,

Yesterday, I was trying to get some organizing done on files in my computer. As I was making a file for all of my Vintage modeling work. I came across some photos of a shoot that I did at the Historic Train Depot in Downtown Tucson, AZ. I don't believe that I have ever shared these pictures on here before and thought that now would be as good a time as any! I did this photo shoot about three years ago, so the pictures are not new. Some of you may have seen these floating around at other sites of mine. However, this was one of my favorite sets and locations that I have shot. So it's worth revisiting for me!

The Historic Train Depot is located on Toole Avenue in the heart of Downtown Tucson. I am so thankful that in 1998 the City of Tucson took on the project of restoring the historic Depot back to it's original style of architecture. City records showed that the original building was built in three stages with the years 1907, 1910 & 1922 on record. The last update and final architecture as we see it renovated today was built in 1941. Plans to house a Transportation Museum of History in Arizona were also considered in the process. The Depot renovation was completed in 2004 and on March 25th 2005, which also marks the 125th Anniversary of the arrival of the Railroad in Tucson. Our Mayor Bob Walkup dedicated and opened the newly renovated Depot and Museum!

So, with all that being said. Number one , thank goodness history has been preserved! and number two it makes for a great Vintage location to do a photo shoot at lol! So here they are, photos of my 1943 stop at the train station.

As the story goes....... in December 1943 my sweetheart was stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas. He had just gotten word that after a year and a half without leave. He wouldn't be coming home for the holidays like we had anticipated. Yet instead, he would be shipped into battle the day after. So in a war effort to keep his spirits flying high. I boarded the train from Tucson, AZ to Texas for a little weekend visit and farewell kiss! While I was waiting to "Catch the A Train" I had a fella take a few pictures of me. This way while he was in the midst of fighting a war. He could pull out his picture from his pocket and remember he had a sexy little sweetheart waiting for him to come home safely!

V for Victory!

A GetUp Post!

Welcome to another fabulous Tuesday at the Golden Girl of the West!

I hope everyone is having a delightful week thus far! Here is what I wore today on the home front as I headed out the door! Several errands to run and not enough time in a day!

My outfit consisted of my Vintage 1940's yellow cotton blouse paired with my late 1940's or early 50's pink high waist shorts. I used this color combination to bring together the colors on my head scarf. The colors are light blue and pink with yellow flowers incorporated. I wore my Vintage spectator style penny loafers and bobby socks. My only accessories today are my vintage white ivory floral earrings and my WWII sweetheart bracelet which you can't see behind my back.

I'll be seeing you,

Syd

An American Pastime

Yesterday, me and my little family took a drive up to Phoenix Arizona. We had tickets to see the Arizona Diamondbacks ball game! Both my husband and son are baseball fanatics. I too have a special place in my heart for the old American Pastime. I remember being around 5 years old and listening to games on the radio with my Grandfather. He would always share stories with me about his days growing up with baseball and following players such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Jackie Robinson. A definite old time sport on my Vintage entertainment list. So whenever we have the opportunity to catch a game, we are all for it. I have yet to visit the Yankee stadium or Wrigley Field, but I can assure you, they are in my book of possibilities under places to visit lol!

Needless to say we had a great day out at the ball game! Plenty of hot dogs, peanuts and cracker jack's to last me a while lol! I just thought I would share a few pictures of my family enjoying the game. Even though the D-backs did not win, we were not far behind and the final score was 3-5.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a lovely Monday ahead!

xoxo,
Syd

What is blue, white & has red polka dots all over?

ME! (te-he-he)….

Just thought I would do a quick outfit post and wish everyone a Happy Friday and a swell weekend!

I had my mom snap a quick wardrobe pic of me in front of my favorite spot, Desert Vintage on 4th Avenue. We had a nice lunch and then decided to take a stroll down the Avenue. I was feeling WWII Patriotic on the home front and decided to dress in red white and blue! I have also taken a moment of silence to remember the heartache that our country faced this September day, eight years ago. Just like our fellow soldier's and citizens at war before us, we as American's have strength, unity and will prevail!

Blouse- handmade from a 1940's pattern
Trousers- handmade from a 1940's pattern
Shoes- Rocket Originals reproduction 1940's wedge in Georgia Red
Purse- Vintage 1940's from Desert Vintage Boutique on 4th Avenue
Accessories- red Bakelite bracelet, Bakelite cherry earrings and red chiffon scarf
Hair- 1940's forward roll bangs and the back rolled under my scarf

Oh yeah! I realized that I forgot to put on my Patriotic pins (Roosevelt & Victory) after I left home. That's what happens when I am rushing out the door! So technically, my outfit was incomplete.....

So that's all folks! Does anyone have any special plans for the weekend?

xoxo,

Syd Divine

P.S- Please take a moment to remember September 11th. I have attached some photos of America's Victories and strength prevailed!

God Bless America!

Weekend Wardrobe

Hey There,

It has been a while since I posted some wardrobe pictures. This weekend in Tucson, we finally has several nice days of weather. Tolerable enough to hang out outside for more than 45 minutes. So in any case, that is what we did. My husband had a nice long weekend due to the Labor Day Holiday. Saturday afternoon me and my family decided to take a stroll Downtown. We had a nice late lunch at Which-Which a little sandwich shop off of University Blvd.

Then we caught the trolley back to the end of 4th Avenue and took a stroll all the way down the Avenue to walk our lunch off. We were just enjoying the weather way too much! We totally took advantage of it! We even took a little detour through some of the streets leading to my favorite old neighborhoods off of 4th Avenue. We love to look at Historic architecture and houses. So low and behold that's what we did!

Sunday afternoon, my Aunt was hosting a family BBQ/Reunion. The afternoon was filled with good food and lots of family stories, laughing and catching up. The stuff I just soak in! Once again, I am such a ding bat! I had my son snap a wardrobe pic before we left the house. Then I sat my camera down on the dining room table as I went inside to grab my dish of contribution to the party. I'm sure you can guess what happened next! Yup that's right! I left my camera at home, sitting on the table. Only did I realize that, when I was digging frantically through my purse to snap a picture of me and my 88 year old Grandmother! I was so mad at myself I wanted to cry! At one point there was 5 generations at hand to take pictures of.

Well enough of that! I just opened up a can of worms thinking about that again this morning! Have any of you felt that way? When you just get so darn mad at yourself for doing something so mindless! Ugh! I guess we are all only human. Just give me some time I will get over it!

Here are 2 outfits that I wore this weekend! Most of the time I looked like a sweetheart on the home front in WWII. I hope you all had a swell weekend and have a blessed week ahead of you!

xoxo,
Syd

Our Trolley Ride down University Avenue!

My outfit consisted of my Vintage 1940's white and yellow floral print cotton dress, paired with my yellow flats and matching yellow belt. I accessorized with my Vintage yellow Lucite earrings, WWII- USN sweetheart bracelet, a yellow ribbon tied around my pulled back ponytail of curls and a white gardenia placed behind my right Victory roll!

I love this Bed & Breakfast in Downtown, Tucson!

Sorry for the shadow and the lovely water heater case in the background!

This was on Sunday on our way to the BBQ!

This outfit consisted of one of my favorite 1940's inspired reproduction blouses. Peach and taupe in color with cap style sleeves. I paired it with my favorite dungarees, taupe belt, my tan 1940's inspired tooled wedges and my Vintage 1940's tooled purse (not pictured). I accessorized with my Vintage peach Lucite earrings, sweetheart bracelet, and the same white gardenia.

Come Stay out West in Vintage Luxury!! (1of4)

Welcome to my Tuesday blog entry!

This will be the first of four entries that I have complied to showcase places to stay in Tucson Arizona, that are boasting with Southwest Vintage charm, History and Luxury. So pack your bags and head out West! Your peek into Vintage Tucson is waiting........

The first one on my list is definatley the beautiful Arizona Inn. Built in 1930 by Isabella Greenway (Arizona's first Congresswomen). The Arizona Inn is known for it's lovely 1930's Vintage Arizona charm, glamour and Old Hollywood Star worthy treatment. You will be surrounded by Vintage Spanish Architecture and decor, as well as 14 acres of lush gardens, tranquil fountains, and an impeccably maintained lawn. For a moment you feel like you have stepped into the walls of a past era of glamour and grace.

Flourishing with both serenity and Western elegance. The Arizona Inn is best remembered for a little luxurious relaxation, History and privacy in the Arizona sunshine. The Arizona Inn is also proud to be on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Known for it's period significance between 1925 and 1949. The Chicago Tribune has called the Arizona Inn; "The Great Dame of Tucson Hotels, simply the Best Place in Town!" It has also been said that many Old Hollywood Gents and Dames themselves, have enjoyed soaking up the peaceful Southwest while staying at The Arizona Inn; to include the company of Bogie and Bing! (Humphrey Bogart & Bing Crosby) It is a must while you are headed out West to pay a visit to this amazing and charming oasis! Here are a few pictures just to give you an idea of the lovely Southwest Vintage charm that awaits your stay! I myself have had the privilege of staying at the Arizona Inn a few times. I have also included a few pictures of my moments pretending I took a step back into that glamorous and gracious time!
