I have no will power!

So I know that I have touched on this subject before. This post just confirms that I have absolutely NO will power when it comes to buying vintage. My closet door does not even close anymore. I am busting at the seams. But yet, can not tell myself NO, you don't need that when I see a vintage bargain. I was simply supposed to head out to a few thrift stores to find a pair of red vintage cowboy boots. That was the mission! However, no luck with the boots, but I did come home with this cute little wrap dress from Buffalo Exchange.....

The 2nd Day is Always Better!

When doing a cold set, the second day of brushing out curls always seems better than the first. It is much more relaxed and frizz tamed. I am still getting used to my shorter hairstyle. So I just realized that with shorter hair, there is alot more brushing out to do, that way I don't look like I have a frizzy afro.  Although if I had the right texture of hair, I wouldn't really mind that! It is easy to have popcorn looking curls on my head of hair. It is so thick and naturally wavy anyway, so it happens.  Here is a picture of my hair when brushed out on the second day, much better!

New Hairdo!

Summer time is tough in the Old West. It has been around 103 degrees in Tucson for the last couple of weeks and that is only the beginning of what is to come. Monsoon season usually starts in July, and with that comes the humidity. Up until now, it has pretty much just been dry heat.

I decided that I was going to cut my hair in a shorter vintage style to be a little more comfortable this summer. I cut it in a middy style that looks a little more 1930's early 40's. I set in it pin curls on Tuesday night and wore a scarf on my head on Wednesday. I did this only because my hair is really thick and takes an extra day to dry completely. This morning I brushed it out with a boars brush and this is my result. It's definitely a little shorter than I am used to. It's just gonna take a little time to adjust. Also my hairdresser forgot to take into consideration that my hair already has a natural wave to it. So when she snipped by bangs wet. They dried a little shorter than I would have liked. Oh well! my hair grows really fast and I will just have to work with them for a little while until they grow out. Hope you all have a nice day. One more day until Friday!!

Bakelite Buttons!

Hey there,

So... I was having lunch with a friend yesterday at Caruso's. It's a fabulous little Italian restaurant located on 4th Avenue near downtown Tucson. It has been open since 1938 and plays a big part in some of the history still left on 4th Ave. Not to mention the fabulous Italian food there! Yum! After we stuffed our faces full of food. We needed to take a stroll. So naturally we headed down 4th Avenue to a couple of my favorite vintage stores. I really wasn't planning on buying anything this week. Partly because I don't need anything right now. And secondly because we are headed out to California in a couple of weeks and I was saving my vintage shopping funds for that, ya know? You know that buying vintage is not a matter of need or not. It's a matter of; when you see a fabulous treasure that is very far and few in between. You pick it up before you will never see it again LOL! So here is the item that I just couldn't resist. The epitome of a 1940's war time dress with a swell collar. But what really tickled me pink, was the butterscotch Bakelite buttons it had on it!

The Dress!!

I was working on a scrapbook today and I cam across this picture that I had put away for the scrapbook. As I'm sure most of you busy ladies know. Sometimes when you have have so many projects going at once. You start to make little ORGANIZED piles of stuff to do, along with things that you collect to go in that pile. Well this summer, since I am not working full time. I have made it a goal to not just say, but DO! All of the things that were on my list and finish them before the summer is over. Although I must say. Since I enjoy all of the things I want to do. It doesn't feel like work. Anything where I can be artistic and express my creativity, helps to fulfill my soul. Scrap booking is something that I started to do a couple years ago. I really enjoyed it. because I am a creative person at heart. This gave me a chance to do that, using paper designs, colors, and enjoying family memories. Of course because I was so busy at work. After I made a couple of books. Most of my materials ended up in a box with a mental note of "I'll get to that later" No more of that! It is my priority to get these done. I want my family to have and cherish these memories for years to come. Enough rambling LOL! I guess I had to get that off my chest. Here is a picture of me & my son that we took on Easter Sunday morning. I really love this picture and it is definitely going in my book. Just thought that I would share it with you all! I thought that you fabulous vintage dames out there would especially appreciate the fabulous hat.

This weeks fabulous finds!!

So sorry that I have been such a procrasinator this week. I have been busy doing some projects around the house (and of course vintage hunting LOL!) Anywhoo it is over 100 degrees here in Tucson and I have decided to take a break from painting my patio set. Grab a nice cold glass of homemade lemonade and spend some time in front of my computer. So I thought that I would start by sharing with you all some of my fabulous finds for the week. While on my continual quest to find vintage. I stumbled upon these items this week, that are just "The Cat's Meow". Have a lookie and let me know what you think!!

Item #1 is a to die for black wool purse from the 1940's. It has a really unique lucite handle on it and it's just the right size. Also in mint condition with the original metal zipper to boot. I couldn't resist it, but for $18.00 and some change, would you?



Item # 2 is a 1940's green evening dress. This dress needs a little TLC. There are no holes or discoloration, however the bead work on the waistline needs some attention. Over the years, some beads have fallen off and what not. No biggie, I only paid $10.00 for this dress at an estate sale. It would be well worth my time to re-string a couple of beads. The pleats on the shoulders and down the center are so fabulous 40's. The beadwork and embelishment is a pewter color, and I have the perfect reproduction 1940's inspired pumps to match (see below) Please excuse my messy closet! That is my next project! LOL!

Item # 3 Next are these swell Du Barry patterns from the 1940's. I loved the lines on these dresses. They are so 1940's sweetheart on the homefront. I ordered these on Ebay and got a great price on them. I ordered the green one on the left specifically for a striped material that I already have. I thought that the straight lines would mesh well with the cut. Since I am not an EXPERT seamstress. I thought it would be difficult for me to deal with striped fabric and seams. So this dress seemed simple enough. I will be sure to post a pic of the finished pieces.

Item # 4 I found these 2 lovely hats from the 1930's era at another estate sale. Even though I really don't need another black hat. I didn't hesitate to throw it in my basket. Also because it is from the 1930's and is in wonderful condition. How about that great straw hat from the 30's? Very Gatsby looking. To bad I don't live in Northern California. I would wear it to the Gatsby picnic. On the right side, there is a small bit of unraveling of straw. I will have to see if it can be repaired. That definatley will not stop me from wearing this hat with a 1930's summer dress and shoes to the movie premier of Public Enemies on July 1st! You see I live in Tucson, there is not a whole lot of nostalgic events and such that take place here (sigh). I have to be in my element whenever it is possible.



Item # 5 And last but not least is a wonderful tablecloth linen from the 1940's. Even though I already have a few of these. This one caught my eye! I think it's because the yellow and brown colors together are very rare combination. You usually see alot of red, green, yellow, and blue combinations. I love both of these colors and was so excited that it was in mint condition with no holes or stains. I can't wait to put it out at Thanksgiving dinner. Perfect colors!!

I dressed my whole family up in 1930's era clothing for Dillinger Day's at Hotel Congress in Downtown Tucson. This re-enactment of John Dillinger's capture takes place every January!!

As I was going through some pictures on my computer today. I came across some pictures of my family that I thought would be nice to post. Since most of my chatter has been about fashion thus far. It is a nice change to get to know a little bit about the family life. Because I am a vintage nut! I insist on dressing my entire family that way. They like vintage and appreciate my love for it. However, they are not as obsessed or dedicated as I am. I can't get them to dress vintage everyday like I do, so I appreciate it when they participate in dressing up for events and such. Here are some family outings that have taken place. Enjoy!!
