Riding Boots and Capes!

Would you believe…. that I found this amazing cape a few months ago at my local Buffalo Exchange. I couldn't believe that nobody had swiped it up! I guess it was just waiting to come with me and find a new home in my closet. I love the fact that it is a below the knee length cape, a plaid pattern in brown & black, AND has this amazing structured cut-out in front. All of this for only $15.00 folks, that was a successful day for treasure hunting, if I do say so myself.

I got to play with this cape a little bit when I was in Austin in November. The second day we were there it was around sixty degrees outside. So yes, that is cold where I come from. I was thrilled to be able to dust off my brown leather riding boots, my beret and THIS amazing cape! And not look ridiculous doing it. In Arizona, sometimes November can still mean desperately longing for fall fashion and trying to wear these things in eighty plus degree weather.

Back from Texas! Part 1

Hey Ya"ll,

Ya, I said ya'll, I was bit by the bug! After spending a week in Austin Texas, it's only natural right? That was such a friendly and awesome city! I had never been before and always heard from others about it's funky charm, creativity, vintage aesthetic and grassroots vibe. So we decided to take a spur of the moment road-trip, out to see our friends and spend some time seeing for ourselves (best idea ever!)

There is undoubtedly inspiration on every corner in Austin. From the great vintage typography and signage, to a plethora of food trucks, music, art and local shops. Not to mention the beautiful rolling hills and green trees that surround the city. That is a really big deal for me folks, due to the fact that I was born and raised in the desert. Here are a few things that caught the likeness of my eyes!

There were quite a few pictures, so I decided to break this post up into two parts, enjoy!

An appreciation for vintage signage everywhere!

A quick jaunt down to San Antonio, to experience the River Walk. It was a beautiful day and we had a nice lunch on this patio.

Romeo didn't waste any time finding his local spot. This circus themed candy store and old fashioned style soda fountain was just too cute for it's own good!. 

I am already planning another trip back soon and I can't wait to get my second dose, of what I missed the first time around. There are a few more food trucks on the list to hit up for sure! I don't think I would ever run out of places to eat.

Hawley Lake

This past weekend my family and I decided we needed to take a little getaway. Away from the city to a place that is quiet, serene and provides a big open sky to think and gather thoughts under.

For us, that place is Hawley Lake, a quick 3 hour jaunt up north to the White Mountains of Arizona, tucked away on reservation land. I know it is hard to imagine that Arizona sees anything other than saguaro cactus, dirt and sunshine all the time, but there are spots in the state that  are cold, crisp and green. September is the perfect time to feel the air changing up there, because you still can't fill a thing until nighttime, down in Tucson. Here are some photographs from our little adventure in the mountains, enjoy!

Of course, if there is even the smallest little antique store on the side of the road, we ARE going to stop! We did, and I found the cutest little vintage treasure pins (cowboys & indians). they fit right in with the atmosphere and I went home with the boot pin (couldn't resist).

The local market had a really sweet vintage sign that was put up in the 1960s. I just love looking at vintage signs and typography, here is a quick snap of it...

Home Sweet Home- Back from San Diego!

I truly hope that everyone had a lovely New Year's Eve celebration! I am putting nothing but good vibes into the atmosphere, for a good year filled with positive happenings! I wish the same for every one of you! I hope that all your dreams, goals, wishes, desires, ambitions, aspirations, etc.,(I think that covers it!) come into play this year. 2010 is going to be the year, I just know it!

I had a swell couple of days spending time down in San Diego, California. After our University of Arizona Wildcats got their butt's kicked. We decided to stay another two days and make the best out of a quick trip. We also rang in the New Year looking out to the ocean. Just in time to catch an amazing sunset, and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean waves at night. That was such a treat, since I don't have any ocean access, at least not within 500 miles of me. There is just something so mysterious, amazing and overwhelming about the ocean, that blows me away.

While we watched the glow of the setting sun, beam off of our son's smiling face, while he played with the sand. We talked about all the things that we have been through in our lives together, where we are today and where we hope to be in the future. It was a nice night, with lots of grateful emotions and encouraging hopes for the future. When you are in the joy of a moment, you just don't want it to end. I'm glad I was right there in that moment for the time I was.

So with that being said, here are just a few pictures from our quick trip. Even though I love to travel, I am always glad to be home sweet home, and in my own comfy bed at night. Dorothy said it best; "There's no place like Home!" So I reflect on the fact that, I am thankful for the years past and my experiences, they made me who I am today. But I do look forward to a fresh New Year!
