Flirting with Leopards

Leopard has added a feisty little touch to a woman's wardrobe since it's eccentric popularity rose in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Glamorous movie mavens like Carol Lombard, were quite happy to indulge in this exotic pattern.

I think that in order to wear leopard in a successful style, it must be done very carefully. Too much of it, all over the place, all at one time, can lead to a leopard fashion disaster.

The rule of thumb I apply to myself when wearing leopard; is to tastefully apply small touches of it to a solid color {image one}. Or if I'm going to wear a full garment in a leopard print, such as a blouse or coat . I make sure the rest of my outfit pieces are not leopard {image two}, again balancing it in with solid colors. That way I don't scream overkill on the leopard. I personally love this print and feel sassy-chic every time I have it on!

Come hear about the history of the little black dress, and see how it evolved through the decades! With a complete fashion show, giving each black dress a visual tribute from the era's of the 1920's through the 1960's!

The AMAZING garments in the show are provided by Black Cat Vintage Clothing & all ensembles are designed by Stylist Syd Divine. Located in Tucson AZ, I suggest a visit to Black Cat's lovely store!

Syd has styled each decade with complete wardrobe, hair & make-up and would love for you to come out, and show your support for fashions history!

There will be a special Valentine's Day screening of Breakfast at Tiffany's following the show! Also Tiffany & Co. is donating a lovely piece of jewelry in an on site raffle, that will proceed the Hermitage Cat Shelter. In honor of Holly Golightly's (Audrey Hepburn) adorable orange cat of course!

Would you believe....

That I found these great Vintage reproduction spat boots while buying my toiletries at Target yesterday!

I said I was only going in there to purchase what I needed, but you know a girl has to always sneak a peek in the shoe department. No matter where she is he-he-he!

Low and behold, there were these great boots that quickly caught my eye. I knew the moment I saw them, that they looked just like a pair I had seen in one of my many reference books to Vintage fashion.

Of course, I purchased them and quickly rushed home to try and remember which of my books I had seen them in. That was a task lol! after sifting through the pages of about 6 books. I finally came upon the one......




"Everyday Fashion of the Forties" As Pictured in Sears Catalogs by: JoAnne Olian

I have had this book for quite sometime, it is definitely one of the older ones in my collection. I am not sure if it is still available to purchase. If it is, I recommend every Vintage Enthusiast to have a copy.

On page 10 of this book, in the upper right corner. You will find a pair of boots called the Feminine Spat Shoe. The date shows 1939/1940.

And these are the reproduction ones I found! So similar, wouldn't you agree? And just in time for Fall fashion to boot!

Here is a closer look at the original to compare images. So glad I took a detour to the shoe isle!
