Golden Garbs- Vision of a Senorita

My long love for the beauty of Mexican and Spanish culture and calendar girls, inspired me to take these pictures yesterday. I was already dressed for the occasion, as this is what I chose to wear to my Father's induction celebration, into the Tucson Musicians Museum, Hall of Fame. What inspired me even more to snap a photo, was the beautiful vision I saw as I stepped out onto the patio for some fresh air. The event took place at the beautiful and luxurious J.W. Marriott Starr Pass Resort.

If you ever plan to motor west, I suggest you visit this amazing resort. Nestled away from the city and at the foot of the Tucson Mountains. The warm open sky, thousands of saguaro cactus standing still in the breeze, and a backdrop view of panoramic mountains is worth the trip alone. A breathtaking view worthy of it's own linen postcard. This vision is what inspired me to artistically match my dress to the scene, and strike a pose deserving of a vintage Mexican calender girl. This is what I came up with.......

It was a nice day for us, and my Dad felt very honored to be recognized in the local musical community. I really hope that as Romeo was sitting there watching, and listening to all the great musical talent in the room. He also felt inspired to continue the music gene. His bank breaking drum lessons are worth the chance!

Wedding wardrobes, events and stuff!

Hello Lovelies,

Monday has come and gone, so here I am on Tuesday running around like a crazy lady as usual!

The weekend was busy-busy! On Friday night I worked as a cigarette girl at the Hotel Congress for a fund raising event "Neon Under the Stars" put on by Tucson Historical Preservation Society, to preserve our cities historic signs and architecture. The event was a success raising quite a substantial amount of money to restore and preserve these fabulous neon nostalgic signs, that once made the gateway to our city of Tucson so quaint and unique. The cigarette girl passed out neon glow sticks instead of Lucky Strikes, but it was a hit!



Then Saturday I rose at the crack of dawn to drive down to Bisbee, where I met up with my gal pal Jennifer who owns The Shady Dell vintage trailer park. I had a freelance gig to style a wedding party of six gals, who wanted some vintage styles for their cute little wedding, that took place at the Art Deco courthouse in downtown Bisbee. The reception then followed at The Shady Dell! The ordained minister sported a 1960's wiggle dress, cat-eyes and a bee-hive! It was all so much fun and too cute for words!

The beautiful bride and her party, some wanted very simple-soft classic updo's and a few wanted some vintage styles. There was the 40's inspired gal, the beehive and a few classic french twist. The bride had a beautiful crown brain around her head, she was very simple and elegant!


Speaking of weddings! I wanted to post this entry last week, but didn't get around to it. Since we are on the subject of weddings, I would like to share one that I attended the previous weekend. This one was a little closer to home, as my second to youngest brother-in-law tied the knot! The wedding was beautiful and so much fun! We danced the night away at the Tucson Museum of Art, which is where the reception was held. It is such a lovely & cozy atmosphere. The weather was perfect for an outdoor event, and the food was delicious, Congratulations Adam and Danielle!

It was also a very special evening because it was my Mother's first formal outing since she came home from the hospital. She was in attendance and so were many other friends and family. It is always nice to see and catch up with everybody! I was in a 1930's glamorous starlet mood, so here is what I wore.....

Golden Girls Garbs- Argyles & Fingerwaves!

Hello lovely readers,

Happy Friday to you! Syd here; wishing you a swell weekend ahead.

I hope to get some downtime this weekend and catch up on some things. I have been such a crazy lady lately. Juggling my time between family, work, school & still trying to find the time to fit in my passions and hobbies is tough. It has been hard on me lately, but somehow it manages to pull itself together. I do apologize for the lack of creative or informational postings. I had mid-terms all week, and I am hoping that I pulled those off too! Test taking was never my first love-ha! I am definitely looking forward to a spring break in the week ahead!

I have lots of fun downtime planned with my family, and maybe a trip with my son to the Zoo. Also, some unfinished projects planned around the house, and a little freelance side gig; styling wardrobe for an amazing photo-shoot (more on that later).

So it's just a quick wardrobe post for now folks:) You know, the one's we all resort to when time is thin!

In a 1930's mood these days!

As much as the fashions of the 1940's are dear to my heart, and an era of dressing choice on most days. The amazing era of fashion from the golden film age of the 1930's, is another one that I love to recreate. The bias cut fitting style of garments, and upward waistline from the low drop waist of the 1920's, fits my body type well. On occasion I get in a glamorous 1930's mood and tend to dress this way from time to time. Then again sometimes you will see me dressed in a 1960's ensemble. I just am passionate about mostly the 1920's-mid 1960's fashion, and like to change it up then and again. I also do love to study & admire some of the mid to late 1800's to early 1900's garments, but you won't see me trying to wear all those undergarments, clothing and layering on a daily basis, oh no! Just fun for a really short period of time, and I mean really short! Before the corset makes you faint!

I wish I had as many garments from the 1930's as I do from the 40's, but they are just so rare. In fact I think the day wear fashions from the 1930's, are even harder to find than the 1920's. My justification for this is women re-fashioning their garments in the later thirties, and into the "Make do and Mend" slogans of early wartime. Evening wear is still pretty available, for a hefty price. Not something I can splurge on, on a regular basis. Which brings me to show you the picture of the glorious 1930's dress, that I wore for the "Black Dress Fashion Show"!

This is just a shot my husband took of me at the event. I am still waiting for the professional pictures to come in. Which will also show the ensembles of all the girls I styled through the decades for the event. Anyway, this is the dress I wore. Hmm.. I just noticed there is some sort of strange orb in it or something, yikes!

A stunning black 1930's velvet bias cut gown, with a deco pattern of velvet cut-outs on the cape.

I paired the dress with a velvet dress beret, that has a pearl ornament in front. I also wore my Grandmother's black jet Charleston beads and deco black marcasite earrings. You can not see my shoes in this pic, but they were a pair of black 1930's inspired t-straps.

And this is what I am wearing today! Again in a 1930's mood..
