Golden Girl Garbs- Peasant Dress

Sunday's wardrobe, as we ventured out on a family day to breakfast, and a few places to walk it off. We didn't stay out too long, as the heat was killer. I was born and raised here, and the heat never used to bother me growing up, but it seems as I get older, my tolerance grows less for it. I love living in Tucson, and won't complain about the gorgeous weather the rest of the year, but sometimes I really wish I had enough money in the bank to relocate to a summer home for the 3 brutal months of intense heat in the summertime in southern Arizona!!

It was already 100 degrees outside and it's 9:30 in the morning!

Outfit:
~1940's Mexican peasant dress
~1940's tooled leather belt
~Tooled leather wedges
~1940's silver and jade Mexican carved mask earring and bracelet set
~Taking my purse for it's last spin around town, before I ship it off today, to the lovely Mary, of Welcome to Deluxville (winner of giveaway)

Have a swell Monday all!

Giveaway Winner!

Hi there!

So yesterday was the last day to enter the big drawing! I was sooo excited to see how many people had an interest in entering! Thank you to each and every one of you, for your kind and encouraging words of congratulations! I really appreciate all of them and your involvement in the giveaway! As much as I WISH I could give each and every one of you a personal gift from me, there has to be only one winner....Believe me, if I had the means, I would totally do it!

I have been accumulating names, as people would enter and in order to give people a full Tuesday to enter. I held off until this morning to add last minute names and pull for the drawing. I had my son put all the little pieces of cut up construction paper (that I borrowed from his stash) with every one's info, into his ball cap. One big shake, no peeking, and he pulled out a name......

And the winner is (drum roll please) Mary! from the fabulous blog Welcome to Deluxville!

Congrats Mary! please contact me to claim your prize and for shipping info, and I will get that little lady on your dressing table, faster than you can shake a stick!

Thank you again, to everyone who entered the giveaway, thank you for your support and your continued visits. Which leads me to the next thought, thank you to all of those who go out of there way to keep up with my blog. I am so sorry for the inconvenience of my blog not being located in your reading lists. I am working on getting it fixed soon (hopefully....)This was the first giveaway that I have hosted on my blog. I really enjoyed doing it, and plan to do another one real soon, maybe when I hit the big 5-0-0!!

I hope you all enjoy your days....

XOXO~Syd

Pushing 400 Giveaway!

I decided it was time for a giveaway! I am just a few away from making the 400 mark of followers on my blog! I am just so taken back by this number and could have never imagined that just a little over a year later, I would reach this amount! So with this giveaway, I am celebrating not only the readers, but a belated year mark anniversary!

Of course as I'm sure it did for many of you. This blog just started out as a humble way for me to share my love of vintage things and to have a place outside my small world to document them. I have had such a joyous experience keeping up with this blog, meeting other people who share similar interest and of course reading all of your lovely blogs, comments and feedback, but most importantly-hopefully building longtime friendships with many lovely people!

I thought long and hard about what it would be that I might giveaway! Some of you are experts at this already, but this is my first giveaway and I am just a rookie at it, so bear with me. I came to the conclusion that I would like to share giving away something that has a significant or distinct meaning from me. For example, a signature piece that is reminiscent of the many things I have an interest in. Something of deep sentimental meaning to me, that I would like another person to always remember me by.

I came up with two good things that I would like to pass on. The first being this lovely ceramic Lady Head lipstick holder. Perfect on any Betty's vanity.....this pretty lady is from the 1950's, equipped with 4 little slots for your red lipstick!

Isn't she a doll?

I'm sure I have mentioned this before somewhere, if not on this blog, somewhere out there in the computer world. So sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I have been collecting Lady Heads since I was a kid! My Grandmother gave me my first one right off of her dressing table, around the age of 7-8 years old. I would always go into her room and drool over it, so she finally let me have it. I proudly put it on a shelf as a child and since then it has evolved onto my own vanity. My obsession for collecting them started very young, with that first one and through the years, I have added many different looking ones from different decades, to the pile! That small fondness, pretty much kick-started a life appreciation of collecting things from the past. So I thought it would be nice to pass that little bit of meaning along. Who wouldn't like a Lady Head in their room? This isn't the one my Grandmother gave me, but I give it with love to someone who appreciates it's beauty!

The second item is this lovely little vintage souvenir purse from Mexico! I know I have bored you with my ongoing expression for the love of vintage western and Mexican collectibles from the 1940's & 50's, but this purse is just a little reminder of that charming time, when the golden age of travel brought many adventurers seeking another culture, out west to my neck of the woods, close to the Mexico border! These souvenir items along with many other little knick-knacks, were ready and available in all of the stops & shops along the way. Long gone are the days of exciting Dude Ranches & Square Dances, but some collectible items can still be found to tell the tale. A lot of these items are still made in places like Mexico and really didn't change over the years, but this one I've had for a while, and thought someone might enjoy toting this little summer basket purse around in a sundress and sandals!

So, now onto the part to get these goodies! All you have to do is simply leave a comment letting me know you are in for the drawing, and I will put your name in the hat! This will also give me a better idea of who is a regular reader. I may have 400 followers, but not all stop in on a regular basis and it is just nice to know who does, even if you are not one to leave comments, though I do appreciate all the comments and feedback! I will draw a name a week from today, so next Tuesday the 22nd of June!!

Good Luck and have a nice week ahead...

XOXO~Syd

Some Summer & Beach Inspiration!

It's no question that summertime brings thoughts & memories of the beach to mind, a pastime of free entertainment for many generations before us! I have to say that every time I come across vintage images of lovely sun kissed bathing beauty's soaking up the sand, in there cute suits and round sunglasses, I just eat them up! I love to look at old candid photos of people relaxing and having a carefree good time at the beach, looks like a much simpler time no doubt. Somehow they are always beautiful in black & white or technicolor, captured in the moment! So are the beauties simply posed with a gorgeous glow on their face. Another favorite image of mine, are the old color linen travel postcard advertisements for the beach. Just one look and it's so inviting, makes you want to getaway right in the moment! Come summertime, I'm definitely always ready to pull out my bathing suit, sunglasses and canopy and take a trip with the family to the beach!

Here are a few of the images and things , that set the mood and inspiration for a day of fun at the beach!

This time, I thought instead of posting pics of my own items. It would be nice to post items for sale, to give new collectors an idea or reference point for similar items, of things to add to their collections, if they don't already have them!

This 1940's yellow two piece suit from Glamoursurf! Might I mention, she always has bundles of stunning vintage suits in her inventory!

To match are these 1940's era rubber kedette beach sandals on Etsy! In perfect dead stock condition, too bad they are not my size!

Another amazing suit, a 1947 Schiaparelli swimsuit, that is totally museum worthy and out of my price range! My friend Ashley, found this one and sent me the link. I just like to gawk over it....and thought you might too!

Paired with this 1940's beach jacket cover up to match!

Of course a pair of sunglasses....

And last, but not least a lovely vintage plaid umbrella with a Lucite handle, to take a little siesta from the sun!

I hope you enjoy this post, and it inspires to you to go out and have a picnic at the beach!

Golden Girl Garbs- Casual Friday!

Just a quick wardrobe post today, it's a casual Friday for me today folks. I was up at 7:00 am this morning doing laundry, cleaning house and paying bills. All accomplished by 10:30am, thanks to the tunes of Xavier Cugat blaring on my radio! As I probably have mentioned before, I just adore the hip swaying sounds of Afro-Cuban Jazz, and it manages to get me moving every time.

My son just stares at me like I'm a weirdo because I am cleaning house and dancing at the same time. When ever he passes by me, I manage to grab him for a quick spin! Too funny....I really hope he is a dancer as he grows up to be a man. We all know every woman loves a man who knows how to dance, and can sweep her off her feet, and as much as I love to dance, it would be a bad nightmare if my own son didn't know how to!

Anywhoo, Friday's chores are almost conquered, but now it's of to the grocery store, to buy ingredients for a nice Italian meal and a cheap bottle of red wine. Sine things have been a busy whirlwind lately, I am hoping for a nice relaxing evening at home with my family, catching up on some flicks! So here's my casual Friday ensemble...

Vintage play-suit in a beige and white stripe pattern & red belt
Navy, beige & red bathing beauty pattern headscarf

Red tennis shoes

Red Bakelite accessories

I have a few fun and inspiring post planned for next week, so stay tuned and have a fabulous weekend!

Toodles,
Syd
