Happy New Year Wishes, Football Fanatics and a Wardrobe Post!

I just decided to combine all of these entries into one post. I am headed out the door early tomorrow morning. For a couple of days away from the computer, and I wanted to make sure that I wished everyone a Happy New Year!!

I just can't believe that it's going to be 2010 in less than a week! This year just flew by in the blink of an eye. I hope that everyone had a really nice holiday season and are looking forward to ringing in the New Year. I am looking forward to a good positive year with lots of new and exciting stuff.

For this year's celebration I will be heading to San Diego, to accompany my football fanatic husband and son to the Holiday Bowl tomorrow. This year our own hometown college; The University of Arizona Wildcats football team, made the cut- Go Wildcats!!

Of course, I will manage to squeeze in a quick trip to the beach (even though it's probably freezing), remember I live in a dry desert. Do some sight seeing and a little Vintage shopping. Believe me, I can do a lot in just 3 days! There seems to be quite a bit of events going on in San Diego for New Year's Eve, so I guess we will just have to see where we end up! Though I would love to catch the fireworks over the beach, that would be swell!!

After all is back to some-what normal, and the holiday craziness settles down. I look forward to getting back on a regular routine with my blog entries.

I wish all of you a very Happy New Year and I hope that you all have lovely hopes and positive encouraging thoughts for 2010!

So I leave you for a couple of days with a good old wardrobe post. This is what I had on today, my favorite color combination of red and yellow!

Christmas Greetings and my Holiday Dress!!

The next couple of days will be preparation madness in my house! More baking, cleaning, cooking, etc. Oh yeah! and a few last min gifts to purchase and wrap (eek!) So... I wanted to take the opportunity to sit down and write a few things before I am busier than a bee!

First things first, I want say Merry Christmas to all of my lovely readers! I truly appreciate the time you take out of your day to show an interest in my world! I hope your holiday is filled with family, friends, memories, relaxation and lots of good food & sweets!

Next, I just wanted to share a quick glimpse of my Christmas dress! I had the opportunity to wear it a few nights ago for a pre-Christmas party. I had my husband snap a quick pic of me standing in our kitchen, right before we headed out for a night on the town. At that time of night, it's the only place we could find a bright enough light. So excuse the lovely background atmosphere of my kitchen sink. I plan on wearing it again for our family Christmas Eve dinner!

I adore this 1950's era dress!

Christmas Glamour

I'm sure most of you can relate to the fact that when, your love for era's of the past becomes your lifestyle. So does every aspect in your life, including the interior of your home. My home is sort of Vintage eclectic. Each room in my home is a different theme and has decor, inspiration and pieces from things I've collected over the years. Ranging from the era's of the 1920's through the 1950's. I took the inspiration for the living room or sitting room of my house from the 1930's and early 1940's Hollywood Regency era. Some familiar names in that interior design style were Dorothy Draper and William Haines.

The original inspiration for this look was taken from the lines and foundations of French Provincial and some of the key elements to incorporate, while styling this look are; mirrors, velvet, satin, damask, fringe, feather's, marble, glass, crystal chandeliers, lacquer, lucite, brass and pops of vibrant colors. This glamorous style of decorating resurfaced itself in popularity again in the later 1960's, after the atomic age, but was already a style that was originally choice of some of the Golden Age of Hollywood's screen stars.

I decided this year, I was going to set up an extra Christmas tree,to match my Hollywood Regency living room. Aside from the more traditional one that I set up in my family room every year, which is where we spend majority of our time. I will call it my Christmas Glamour tree! My new little tree is a small table top tree, but it definitely makes a statement of glamour for my living room. I made sure to use a few of the elements in this Hollywood style not only on the tree, but I added a few small touches of Christmas in other places around the room to continue the flow of Christmas glamour. Such as ostrich & peacock feathers, vibrant turquoise, crystal, gold, sparkles, marble, chandelier ornaments, candles, etc.

Here are a few pictures I would like to share with you. Let me know what you think???

This is just a start, as I hope to add more decorations for next Christmas. Yup that's right, I'm one of those people that waits for all the decorations to go on sale after Christmas, and I stock up for the following year.

Yes, that is an ostrich tree topper and little silver peacocks!
And I still need to get a mini tree skirt for it.

Blue and white sparkly poinsettias and gold peacock feathers!

I completely realize that I am not the best photographer in the world. With lighting and all that good stuff, but the images are there right? I am a stylist, not a photographer, but I do need to take some classes and learn the skill. Oh yeah, and invest in a fancy camera too-lol!

Vintage Christmas Linens

Happy Monday lovely readers!

With the Christmas spirit heavy in my home. Over the past few weeks, I have been putting out the Christmas decorations, that I have collected over the years. I also went to a yard sale over the weekend, in which I acquired a few new ones to add, a whopping .25 cents an ornament! I try to add a few more every year. You used to be able to buy Vintage Christmas decorations by the plenty, and at reasonable prices too.

I find that gets harder each year, as the popularity of Vintage Christmas decorations grows. I saw some in an antique store the other day for $7.00 a piece, whew! While I was doing some baking over the weekend, I had a thought for a blog post. I love this time of year, simply for the old fashioned spirit, coziness, decorations, yummy baked goods and food, but also because I love to take out and use all of my Vintage Christmas linens!

I snapped a quick photo of a few of my favorites (tablecloth, apron, hankie). How many of you are also addicted to collecting vintage linens?

"A Date which will live in Infamy"

December 7th, 1941

I express my deepest sympathy for the loss at Pearl Harbor, and my appreciation for the strength, courage, honor & sacrifice of "The Greatest Generation" that followed for years of battle in WWII to come. Today, I plan on visiting the USS Arizona Memorial and Bell, that is housed at The University of Arizona.

Some Outfits.

My how the time flies, I cannot believe that we are already in the first week of December. Whew! I swear there are just not enough hours in a day to get everything done.

Thanksgiving just blew by and now we are moving right into the Christmas craziness! Personally Christmas is my favorite Holiday. I look forward to it every year, and really try hard not to spoil it with the frustrations of sales, traffic, crazy shoppers, tired attitudes and so on. It is not what Christmas is supposed to be about in the first place. I enjoy baking, decorating, listening to Christmas music, family time, giving, and the whole spirit of the season. The old fashioned way I guess you could say. People get to caught up in the materialistic side of things, they forget to enjoy the Holiday, and instead make it a burden. That's no fun!

More to come on the Christmas season as the weeks move closer. Sorry, I guess I just had to share that thought, since I already had my first run-in with a rude lady at the store last night. When did people forget to use their manners and be decent to one another!

Anywhoo, enough of that! Here are a few outfit pics that I wanted to post in the meantime. The first one is well overdue, being that it was my Thanksgiving outfit. Gosh, I wish that I could have one of the lovely feather print rayon dresses, that I talked about in my QofV article. No such budget or luck at the moment. So instead I tried to incorporate the colors and feather's of Thanksgiving!

The quality of the picture is not that great, nor is the setting. We just had a family member take a quick snap after we ate dinner at my in-law's house. So excuse the stuff in the background and on the floor, also the expression of stuffed with turkey and mashed potatoes, that shows all over my face and stomach, but the point is there right?

Outfit Details:

1940's feather hat- How Sweet it Was Vintage
1940's yellow blouse- Buffalo Exchange
1940's green gabardine skirt- Tucson Thrift
Brown 1940's era inspired pumps- Mossimo (another past Target find )
Bakelite earrings and bracelets- A mix of local estate sale finds and gifts

My next outfit is what I sported yesterday. I had quite a bit of running around to do, in preparation for the Vintage Fashion Show and Fair event that I am organizing for in 2010. More information on that to follow as well. Right now we are still in the beginning stages of meetings, planning, organizing, etc. I have quite a few plans for the Vintage loving community in 2010. Due to some recent, but GOOD changes (loss of demanding, frustrating, time consuming job!) in my life in early 2009. It has allowed me to give more full time attention to some of my passions, plans and things that I have wanted & needed to do for a while. Not only that, but put my life meaning, love, goals and priorities in perspective again. I am sure that I am not the only one, who gets bogged down in a comfort zone, goes with the flow, and just put's up with crap for a steady paycheck. Geez, I guess I just feel like chatting today! I am in a much better place and will stop rambling on now. On to the purpose of this post, the picture!
